Or were we just all part of a grand, cosmic prank?

Awful Day Ever
It all started with a case of morning hair. I couldn't do it to look right. As I was hurrying out the door, I stumbled and gracefully all over myself. To make matters worse, I was completely late for school.
I sweating. My {boss|mentor|was absolutely furious. I tried to explain, but it was no use.
The rest of the day was an absolute nightmare. Everything. I couldn'tfocus.
By the time I got home, I was completely drained. This day, this horrific day will be forever remembered as an epic fail.
Things Went From Bad to Absolutely Terrible
It all started out horribly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then things went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy website of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to throw your hands up.
